Stimulate?? We have to pay What?? Part 2

I am not very happy right now and it goes way beyond the economy. We have had many years where the Republicans in charge in Washington forgot their Conservative roots. Regular increases in the size and cost of government; amnesty for illegal immigrants; earmarks for anything and everything; and government stepping into the free marketplace. We have increased our debt to China so much that not only will our children be paying it off but our grandchildren will probably be saddled with some of it.

Market corrections that should have happened in the 90’s were hidden by our government making more money available to us. This has resulted in our financial market leading the way into the recession we currently feel. There are many problems going on in the economic affairs of this country but the lack (see Refusal) of financial backing to many businesses has caused them to cut back. We have Legislators giving out MILLIONS of OUR DOLLARS like they were passing out pocket change. This is supposed to stimulate the free market. The problem is the money they gave to the banks was used to buy their competition and provide multi-million dollar bonuses to the executives that put them in this position. Where will it end?

Now BILLIONS are going to the Big 3 and a new President is coming into office with a different idea of economic stimulus. It could be called FDR light but that wouldn’t be right. The amount of money Obama plans on putting into public works projects will far surpass not only everything that has been given out already but everything that FDR gave out in all his terms of office.

In the first phase we are talking $800B to $1.3T of our tax dollars split between the states for public works projects that will be “shovel ready” within six months. Our Governor, Mr. Photo Op, is using this new stimulus like a special bonus for running our states finances into the ground. Why should he be different than the banking CEOs? We on the Laconia City Council have already been asked to provide a list of municipal projects that meet the guidelines; are large enough to put lots of people to work and are projects that can be started within the 6 month window. He has already made this request of all the cities/towns in the state as well as all of the state departments.

I was in awe on Friday when I read the same AP story in all the newspapers:

With its emphasis on public works projects, President-elect Barack Obama's plan for economic revival presents a "once-in-a-life time opportunity" for rail backers in New Hampshire, according to the state's transportation commissioner.

A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY????

And that’s just one Commissioner appointed by Lynch. He goes on:

"It's certainly the best opportunity that's come around in decades, and frankly, it's the best opportunity for infrastructure funding that's come around since the 1950s," said Commissioner George Campbell

Oh yes, its like manna from the anointed one. He hasn’t even taken office yet and this appears to be a done deal. I can’t say I was too dismayed when I read about Concord’s City Manager Tom Aspell sending a letter last week to members of New Hampshire's congressional delegation asking for money from the stimulus package Congress is expected to approve next year. Aspell said the money would build up the city's infrastructure and create jobs. He hasn’t even submitted a list of projects to be done, he just wants the money, by January 21st please.

I wonder if President-Elect Obama remembers history. The Great Depression, which ended almost 70 years ago is blamed for economic recovery not happening until WWII started. Perhaps he is waiting for the next World War to save us.

So I guess we should give a big THANK YOU to all of the American Taxpayers and their descendents for kindly donating to the cause,
YOU are now INDEBTED FOR US.
