Last night Laconia Planning Director, Shanna Saunders, along with her staff and guests, hosted a Charrette/Visioning meeting on what the Bloom's building can become. The meeting was well attended and there was a lot of representation from the city (Mayor Lahey, Manager Eileen Cabanel, Councilors Luther, Baer, Bolduc and myself) as well as individuals from the community and the Main Street program.

In fact the meeting was held at the Main Street office on Canal Street. Gary and Marty Bloom described the history of the building and how they came to open up the current operation there. Gary mentioned during the meeting that they were "doing this sale backwards" in that most individuals would just sell, walk away and never look back. They announced their intentions to retire and sell the business/building 3 or more months ago. Gairy said they did this because they love Laconia and are concerned about the impact this sale would bring.

It was clear from hearing the Blooms speak that they do have a passion. A passion for each other and a passion for the city. I think we are a better place because of people like them.

Monday evening, May 5th, at 5:30 PM the Main Street program is having a meeting at the Belknap Mill and much of the vision that was discussed last night will be available for people to see and comment on. I hope to see you all there.
