Welcome from the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, known as New England’s playground because of the beautiful surroundings of lakes, mountains and trees. It is said “this is what people move here for” but I have to tell you it’s more than that.

I am originally from the Phoenix, Mesa area of Arizona and I remember the conservative values of the state while growing up. Arizonans were a strong-willed people that weren’t afraid to jump into the middle of a problem and fix it. They are a very independent type that didn’t have a tremendous amount of friends, usually they were acquaintances. I always thought that the tough environment of Arizona’s desserts, mountains and plateaus built character but I was wrong. If you want to see a character building environment come to New Hampshire, especially in the winter months.

The people of New Hampshire are equally strong-willed and independent but they also have a strong sense of community. I have been to many different states throughout my life but I have yet to see politics in the most pure form than in New Hampshire. If you have attended any Town Meetings you will know what I am talking about. All of the members of the community come together in March to discuss the town budget, capital improvements, school budget, town and school staffing issues, etc… and nothing is done until a majority of the town residents in attendance vote for it. This is one of the main reasons people like me move here, you can actually have a voice in your government. Since the Civil War New Hampshire has seen a Republican majority in both houses of the Legislative Branch, Executive Council and Governors office more often than not. In fact the elections of 2006 gave the Democrats control over all the 4 main sections of the government, 2 Executive Branches and 2 Legislative Branches for the first time since 1874.

What is Conservatism?

I have struggled with trying to define Conservatism and what a Conservative is. I consider myself to be a Conservative and know what it means to me but it is difficult to put it into words without getting extremely lengthy.

In my studies I have come across the Russell Kirk Center for Cultural Renewal. Dr Russell Kirk is the only American to hold the highest arts degree (earned) of the senior Scottish university—doctor of letters of St. Andrews. He received his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and his master’s degree from Duke University. He received honorary doctorates from twelve American universities and colleges. Dr Kirk has published 32 books, hundreds of periodical essays and many short stories during his over 40 years in the thick of intellectual controversies.

The Hon. John Engler wrote:

“Russell Kirk has defended traditional values in a culture that restlessly seeks the shock of the new. Through numerous writings and lectures, conversations and seminars, he has taught Americans about America—about its deeply conservative habits, about the roots of its constitutional order, about the Burkean influence on our Founders.”

Could this be True???

If we want to stop this from becoming the truth…

…Then Conservatives Need to Speak Out!!!!

We need to help people understand that all Republicans are not Conservatives.

People should understand that there are basic core principles to Conservativism.

1.                  We believe in Smaller Government.

a.       Government SHOULD NOT be the largest employer

b.      Government is not the be-all, end-all in life

c.       Local control is key to responsive Government

2.                  We believe in strong National Defense

a.       Strong Military

b.      Secure Borders

c.       Active Intelligence Gathering

d.      Energy Independence

3.                  We believe Judges should Interpret the Law

a.       Judges should not make law but instead direct the Legislature if laws are unconstitutional

b.      Look to the Original Intent of our Constitution

c.       Don’t make rulings based on Foreign Laws

4.                  We believe in Fiscal Responsibility

a.       Spending should be for necessities

b.      Transparency in “Earmarks” and other Spending

c.       Eliminate funding for programs that provide little or no benefit

…And Most Importantly –

Don’t Blame Conservatives because the Republicans Lost Their Way.

This week the Republican presumptive nominee’s interview with Bill O’Reilly was aired (May 8th in 2 segments and on May 9th in 1 segment) on the Fox News Channels “The O’Reilly Factor”.

I haven’t seen any posts on the web talking about this interview (maybe because it isn’t controversial) but I feel that it is important to present all sides so you can make informed decisions on who to vote for.

I have made no secret of the fact that I have issues with John McCain. I have known him for a long time from when I was in Arizona. He is strong headed and it is hard to sway him on any issue. A lot of the time he is proven to be right on issues, like the war strategy disagreements with Donald Rumsfeld. I have also found through the years that he will readily admit when he is wrong on an issue when the proof is there. The main thing that I will argue on his behalf is about his integrity.

The papers and press over the years have tried to throw dirt at him but it would never stick. I strongly believe that his integrity is above reproach. This is something that may be lacking from the Democrats running for their party’s nomination.

Watch the videos and decide for your self.

I think any conservative watching these videos will be able to identify the areas of disagreement.

It is my opinion John McCain is the better choice.

John McCain will be strong on the uncontrolled spending and earmarks, national defense, foreign policy and the rule of law.

We just need him to be stronger on domestic, energy and immigration policy.

Federal Government Spending is hitting an all time high and, even though they aren’t hitting the taxpayers directly, we will feel the effect. All of the increased spending is from money the feds are borrowing, thus increasing the National Debt.

Our representatives in Washington D.C. think they can get away with this because the American People don’t follow all of their actions that closely. Most people see the members of the Republican Party as Conservatives and forget that the Conservative Movement is only a portion of the party.

People blame the war in Iraq and all of the media hype for the fall of the Republican Party in the 2006 elections. The Democrats in New Hampshire only rode the wave of discontent to take over our state legislature. What we need is more spending accountability for our elected FEDERAL and STATE Representatives. All of their votes on spending should be recorded and reported so we all know who they are representing.

The video below is a CNN report about the current spending issue and how accountability can be established.

The important thing to remember is that conservative principals require a reduction in spending to off-set any reductions in the tax rates we pay. This holds true for federal, state, county and municipal spending and taxation.

This November we will be facing some important choices and it is important that we not just elect Republicans to control taxes but that we elect Conservatives to control spending.

We become like zombies when deciding who to cast our vote for elected officials. We only pay attention to what the main stream media says and do not become informed from other sources. Please do your research and vote for the people who will fight to protect our wallets.
