Last night was the official lighting of the Weirs Beach Sign, which is used to mark the beginning of the tourist season in The Weirs. The evening started with food, drinks, and social conversation at The Smokehouse Restaurant across the street from the sign.

There were several people in attendance, including the Mayor; Councilors Bob Hamel, Armand Bolduc and myself; Director of Parks and Recreation Phil Rowley; and the press (Michael Kitch from the Laconia Daily Sun, Jon Kozoil and Ray Mongeau from the Citizen of Laconia).

As soon as it was dark enough we headed outside and across the street. Everyone lined up on the sidewalk with Tom Pucci, President of the Weirs Action Committee and Police Chief Moyer standing next to the sign. The press asked the Mayor and Councilors to be in the picture, to which we obliged.

This was the 8th Annual First Light Ceremony, which might seem a little hokey to some but I think it helps to keep us grounded to what we have here.

I look forward to seeing you at “The Weirs” this summer.
