The House and Senate Leadership keep saying that it is the Speculators that keep driving the price for oil up. Well last week when President Bush revoked the Executive Order that banned drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf the price per barrel of oil dropped dramatically because the speculators saw the increase in supply coming, which will reduce the price that can be charged. If OUR representatives would follow through and revoke the congressional ban on this drilling the SPECULATORS would lower the price even more. That is IMMEDIATE RELIEF to US!!!
Not to mention that the supply will increase and keep prices lower for a long time. At least until alternative forms of energy can be affordably marketed.

Why Conservatives Are Happier Than Liberals
Wednesday, May 07, 2008
By Jeanna Bryner
Individuals with conservative ideologies are happier than
liberal-leaners, and new research pinpoints the reason: Conservatives
rationalize social and economic inequalities.
Regardless of marital status, income or church attendance,
right-wing individuals reported greater life satisfaction and well-being than left-wingers, the new study found.
Conservatives also scored highest on measures of rationalization,
which gauge a person's tendency to justify, or explain away, inequalities.
The rationalization measure included statements such as: "It
is not really that big a problem if some people have more of a chance in life
than others," and "This country would be better off if we worried
less about how equal people are."

To justify economic inequalities, a person could support the idea
of meritocracy, in which people supposedly move up their economic status in society based
on hard work and good performance.
In that way, one's social class attainment, whether upper, middle
or lower, would be perceived as totally fair and justified.
If your beliefs don't justify gaps in status, you could be left
frustrated and disheartened, according to the researchers, Jaime Napier and
John Jost of New York University. They conducted both a U.S.-centric survey and
a more internationally focused one to arrive at the findings.
"Our research suggests that inequality takes a greater
psychological toll on liberals than on conservatives," the researchers
write in the June issue of the journal Psychological Science, "apparently
because liberals lack ideological rationalizations that would help them frame
inequality in a positive (or at least neutral) light."
The results support and further explain a Pew Research Center survey from
The same rationalizing phenomena could apply to personal
situations as well.
"There is no reason to think that the effects we have
identified here are unique to economic forms of inequality," the
researchers write. "Research suggests that highly egalitarian women are
less happy in their marriages compared with their more traditional
counterparts, apparently because they are more troubled by disparities in
domestic labor."
The current study was funded by the National Science Foundation.

warden says his prison has an unpaid guard: a black bear
By MARY FOSTER
Associated Press Writer
The way the warden sees it, the more than 400-pound black
bear living in the middle of the sprawling Louisiana State Penitentiary is an
extra layer of security.
"I love that bear being right where it is," Warden
Burl Cain said Monday. "I tell you what, none of our inmates are going to
try to get out after dark and wander around when they might run into a big old
bear. It's like having another guard at no cost to the taxpayer."
The bear was first seen by an inmate crossing a road in the
prison on Friday. It was taking a stroll near the center of the state's only
maximum security prison, which is about
Prison workers measured the bear's footprints, which were
six inches in diameter, Cain said.

Prison officials believe they have eight to 10 bears on the

Maria Davidson, manager of the Large Carnivore Program for
the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, doubts there are that many, but marvels
that even one was spotted in an area of high activity such as the center of the
prison.
"Bears are actually very shy, their tendency is to run
and hide," Davidson said.
As for acting as an unpaid prison guard, Davidson doubts
that the bear would provide much of a deterrent to a fleeing prisoner.

I hope this will help everyone understand the different forms of government in the world. The real question is which form do we have at the Federal, State and County?
FEUDALISM: You have two cows. Your lord takes some of the milk.
PURE SOCIALISM: You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else's cows. You have to take care of all the cows. The government gives you as much milk they think you need.
BUREAUCRATIC SOCIALISM: You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else's cows. They are cared for by ex-chicken farmers. You have to take care of the chickens the government took from the chicken farmers. The government gives you as much milk and eggs the regulations say you should need.
FASCISM: You have two cows. The government takes both, hires you to take care of them, and sells you the milk.
PURE COMMUNISM: You have two cows. Your neighbors help you take care of them, and you all share the milk.
RUSSIAN COMMUNISM: You have two cows. You have to take care of them, but the government takes all the milk.
CAMBODIAN COMMUNISM: You have two cows. The government takes both and shoots you.
DICTATORSHIP: You have two cows. The government takes both and drafts you.
PURE DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. Your neighbors decide who gets the milk.
REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. Your neighbors pick someone to tell you who gets the milk.
BUREAUCRACY: You have two cows. At first the government regulates what you can feed them and when you can milk them. Then it pays you not to milk them. Then it takes both, shoots one, milks the other and pours the milk down the drain. Then it requires you to fill out forms accounting for the missing cows.
PURE ANARCHY: You have two cows. Either you sell the milk at a fair price or your neighbors try to take the cows and kill you.
ANARCHO-CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull.

"Wealth Redistribution"
The translation is:
There are people that have needs greater than yours, now give me all of your money so I can help them!
A friend of mine sent me these stories and I think with all of the discussion that has taken place over taxes that I should lighten it up a little. I don't want everyone getting depressed with what is going on.
The Father/Daughter Talk
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college.
Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of "the redistribution of wealth."
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Conservative, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?"
She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA.
She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast.
She's always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."
Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the Conservative Way."

The Republican and The Democrat
A Republican and a Democrat were walking down the street when they came to a homeless person. The Republican gave the homeless person his business card and told him to come to his office for a job. He then took $20 out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless person.
The Democrat was very impressed, so when they came to another homeless person, he decided to help. He walked over to the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare office. He then reached into the Republican's pocket and got out $20. He kept $15 for administrative fees and gave the homeless person $5..
Now, do you understand the difference?
